چکیده

Abstract Metals and agrochemicals are among the main aquatic contaminants, being able to trigger oxidative stress in exposed organisms. The objective of this work was evaluate correlation between level biomarkers Aegla crabs (Crustacea, Anomura) with (i) set metals present streams sediment (ii) land uses three hydrographic basins. study carried out (≤ 2nd order) basins southern Brazil (Basins Rio Suzana, Ligeirinho-Leãozinho Dourado). In these were quantified Cu, Cr, Cd, Fe, Mn Zn concentrations sediment. enzymes Catalase (CAT) Glutathione Reductase (GR), as well membrane lipid peroxidation (TBARS), analyzed adult females. PCA analysis showed that distribution different Cr Fe correlated positively CAT negatively TBARS GR. Dourado basin had lowest highest levels TBARS. However, there is predominance agriculture use, agricultural use. Besides basin, GR activity higher than others basins, indicating a compensatory response relation inhibition. Suzana rivers lower values, which may be due induction accumulated summary, indicates concentration toxic an adaptive induction, reduces Aegla. On other hand, metallic contamination, occurrence primarily influenced by

Characterization of oxidative stress biomarkers in a freshwater anomuran crab.

In general, environmental responses at level of populations or communities are preceded by alterations at lower biological levels which can be efficiently detected by the analysis of biomarkers. We analyzed the oxidative biomarkers TBARS and Catalase in Aegla singularis, a freshwater crustacean highly sensitive to environmental changes. The objective was to address if are differences in these b...

Metals, toxicity and oxidative stress.

Metal-induced toxicity and carcinogenicity, with an emphasis on the generation and role of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, is reviewed. Metal-mediated formation of free radicals causes various modifications to DNA bases, enhanced lipid peroxidation, and altered calcium and sulfhydryl homeostasis. Lipid peroxides, formed by the attack of radicals on polyunsaturated fatty acid residues of p...

Molecular systematics and biogeography of the southern South american freshwater "crabs" Aegla (decapoda: Anomura: Aeglidae) using multiple heuristic tree search approaches.

Recently new heuristic genetic algorithms such as Treefinder and MetaGA have been developed to search for optimal trees in a maximum likelihood (ML) framework. In this study we combined these methods with other standard heuristic approaches such as ML and maximum parsimony hill-climbing searches and Bayesian inference coupled with Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques under homogeneous and mixed ...

Some acute phase proteins, oxidative stress biomarkers and antioxidant enzyme activities in ewes with pregnancy toxemia

The aim of this study is to investigate antioxidant enzymes, oxidative stress biomarkers and the acute phase proteins levels for subclinical and clinical pregnancy toxemia and to determine the effect of early diagnosis on the success of curing. According to the results of clinical and biochemical parameters, from 39 ewes, 10 were healthy ewes (control group), 13 ewes had subclinical pregnancy t...

Evaluation of oxidative stress biomarkers and acetylcholinesterase activity in Gammarus pseudosyriacus exposed to nanosilver

The extensive use of nanoparticles in a variety of applications has raised great concerns regarding theirbiological effects and environmental fate. Silver nanoparticle, often referred to as nanosilver (n-Ag), maycause health problems because of its wide and ever growing use in many applications. n-Ag is used intreatments of wounds, disinfection of water and/or air and coatings textiles. n-Ag is...
